Emergency Eyecare

Emergency NHS appointments are available at our branches in Codsall, Fallings Park, Walsall and West Bromwich.

If you are suffering from any of the following symptoms you may require an urgent eye care appointment. Please note, this is not a sight examination.

•  Red or painful eye or eyelids
•  Recently occurring flashes or floaters
•  Recent and sudden loss of vision
•  A foreign body in the eye

If you have very minor symptoms you may be advised to self care or seek support from your local pharmacy first.

Am I eligible?

Adults and children registered with a local GP are eligible for this service. Please note, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

If you have a major eye condition such as cataracts, diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma that is being regularly monitored by your optometrists or the hospital eye service, this will not be covered by this service.

How can I make an emergency appointment?

Appointments are available during normal working hours, please contact your local branch via telephone. Please note, this service is not available at our Leeds branch.

Codsall – 01902 844201
Fallings Park – 01902 723449
Walsall – 01922 613433
West Bromwich – 0121 5255144

A member of our team will ask some questions about your symptoms in order to assess if you need to be seen and how quickly. This will be within 24 hours for urgent cases.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please take your glasses and a list of your current medication with you to the appointment.

The optometrist may put drops in your eyes to enlarge your pupils in order to get a better view inside your eyes. You should not drive until the effects of these drops have worn off, which may take a few hours.

If your condition is serious the optometrist will book you an urgent appointment at an hospital eye clinic. If you need a routine appointment with a hospital, the optometrist will organise this for you.

You may also be advised to make an appointment with your GP if your eye condition is in relation to your general health.
